The aims of the Council were to achieve the  following:

1. Optimize the routine administration of the affairs of  SMDC
2. Strengthen the legal operating framework of  SMDC
3. Address issues relating to the professional conduct and competence of practising medical practitioners and dentists
4. Address issues relating to the continuous medical education of medical practitioners and dentists
5. Improve the financial status of  SMDC
6. Improve the visibility of SMDC
