The Governing Board of SMDC consists of 12 members. Some of the members are elected by the medical and dental professions to be on the Board whilst others are nominated by the Minister for Health, by virtue of certain specific criteria set in the Act. The composition of the SMDC Board changes every two years (refer to the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Act, 1994 and amendments thereof). Members of the Board elect their own Chairman at their first sitting.
